It involves setting your camera to a long shutter speed, usually in the range of 10 to 30 seconds, and then moving a flashlight or candle around your subject during the exposure.

While the shutter is open, you "paint" the subject with your light, emphasizing the portions of the scene you want to bring out, leaving in shadow those you want subdued.

The higher the ISO, the more light is let in. Low ISOs of 100 - 250 are ideal for any kind of night photography. Shutter speed - shutter speed is how long you leave your camera's shutter open.
